Arborist v’s Tree Surgeon

In the world of tree care, it’s important to distinguish between two crucial professions: arborists and tree surgeons. These distinctions hold particular relevance for businesses seeking specialized tree care services. This blog aims to clarify the differences between these two roles in simpler terms, suitable for a general audience.

1. Arborists: Tree Care Specialists

Arborists can be thought of as tree experts who focus on the overall health and well-being of trees. Their primary responsibilities encompass:

  • Tree Health Management: Arborists are skilled at diagnosing and treating tree diseases, insect infestations, and nutritional deficiencies. They work to ensure the long-term health and vitality of trees.
  • Pruning and Shaping: Arborists perform pruning and shaping techniques to improve tree structure, appearance, and safety. This includes activities like removing dead branches and thinning out canopies.
  • Tree Planting: They provide guidance on selecting appropriate tree species for specific locations and employ proper planting techniques to ensure successful growth.
  • Safe Tree Removal: When necessary, arborists can safely and professionally remove trees, considering factors like safety and environmental impact.

2. Tree Surgeons: Specialists in Tree Procedures

In contrast, tree surgeons, often known as arboriculture professionals, specialize in performing specific procedures on trees. Their core responsibilities include:

  • Tree Removal: Tree surgeons excel in the safe and efficient removal of trees, particularly in situations where safety is a concern or precision is needed in urban or commercial settings.
  • Emergency Response: During storms or unexpected tree-related emergencies, tree surgeons are called upon to promptly clear debris and restore safety.
  • Large-Scale Pruning: Tree surgeons are proficient in carrying out extensive pruning operations, often addressing structural issues and safety concerns within commercial landscapes.

In a Nutshell:

Arborists serve as holistic tree caretakers, emphasizing the overall health and longevity of trees in various settings. In contrast, tree surgeons are akin to specialists called in for specific tree-related procedures, such as precise tree removal or immediate response to emergencies.

To simplify the decision-making process, it’s advisable for businesses to begin their tree care endeavors by consulting with arborists. Arborists can assess the condition and needs of the trees and recommend the involvement of tree surgeons when specialized skills are required.

In conclusion, both arborists and tree surgeons play essential roles in ensuring the health, safety, and appearance of trees in commercial environments. This collaboration results in sustainable and secure landscapes that are both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally responsible.

Can't speak highly enough of this team. Professional, experienced, polite etc etc. 4th time they've been to me ( I don't live in a forest , just got lots of large unruly trees). Ryan and Calum did an amazing job on them. No complaints as they ploughed through all my requests in the pouring rain. Mustn't forget Kate in the office and Billy who leads the team. All of them are fantastic. If you need any tree work Evoke are the only ones to call. Thanks guys . Photo before and after on the front hedge

We have used Evoke for our tree work for several years. As always, a very well-done job from start to finish, including the initial visit and obtaining the appropriate permissions from the WHC. All the trees were pruned as requested to a very good shape and the site was cleared of all rubbish.

Good service, provided by nice staff. The team handled the application process required for the removal of a number of very large lleyandii, plus the removal and stump grinding. Even dealing with having to work around a large amount of waste material and old fencing from previous owners.
