Love your garden this June.

June is an excellent month for gardening, with longer days and warmer weather creating ideal circumstances for development and maintenance. To keep your garden looking its best, here are five tasks to complete this month. These tasks range from caring for your plants to planning for the hot summer months, helping you maintain a vibrant and healthy garden space.

1. Prune spring-flowering shrubs.
Spring-flowering plants such as lilacs, forsythias, and azaleas have completed their blooming season by June. This is the best time to prune them, remove spent blossoms, and shape the plants. Pruning promotes new growth and contributes to the general health and look of your bushes.

2. Plant summer annuals and perennials.
June is an excellent time to add colour to your garden with summer-blooming annuals and perennials. These plants will thrive in warm conditions, producing gorgeous blooms and foliage all season. Consider marigolds, petunias, and cosmos as annuals, hostas are a good choice as a perennial. Make sure to select plants that are appropriate for your area climate and soil.

3. Mulch your garden beds.
Mulching is an important garden job in June because it retains soil moisture, suppresses weeds, and regulates soil temperature throughout the hot summer months. A good layer of mulch completes the beauty of your garden beds. Organic mulches such as wood chips, straw, or shredded leaves are good options, decaying over time and contributing  nutrients to the soil. Inorganic mulches, such as gravel or stones, are also useful, but they do not provide organic matter to the soil.

4. Use water wisely.
As temperatures rise, it becomes increasingly important to water consistently and efficiently. Proper watering procedures ensure that your plants get enough hydration without wasting water.  When to Water: Water early in the morning or late in the evening to prevent evaporation and allow plants to absorb moisture before the day’s heat. Use hoses or drip irrigation systems that distribute water straight to the root zone. This decreases water waste and lowers the danger of fungal disease on plants. Water thoroughly and infrequently to promote deep root growth.

5. Monitor for pests and diseases.
June is a month when pests and diseases may become more common in your garden. Regular monitoring and early intervention are essential for keeping your plants healthy. Common pests include aphids, spider mites, caterpillars, and slugs. Inspect the undersides of the leaves and stems for evidence of infestation. Keep a watch out for symptoms of fungal diseases like as powdery mildew and blight. To lower humidity levels, keep plants well-ventilated and prevent overhead watering. Remember that infected plant material should be removed and disposed of promptly.

Pruning, planting, mulching, watering judiciously, and checking for pests and diseases will all help to keep your garden bright, healthy, and beautiful. So, roll up your sleeves, grab your gardening tools, and love your garden this June. Happy gardening!

Can't speak highly enough of this team. Professional, experienced, polite etc etc. 4th time they've been to me ( I don't live in a forest , just got lots of large unruly trees). Ryan and Calum did an amazing job on them. No complaints as they ploughed through all my requests in the pouring rain. Mustn't forget Kate in the office and Billy who leads the team. All of them are fantastic. If you need any tree work Evoke are the only ones to call. Thanks guys . Photo before and after on the front hedge

We were delighted by the work Evoke did on our hedge. This was a significant pruning but was done with care and commonsense. It resulted in a job that was superb - and looked better than anticipated. Their professionalism was appreciated; we can highly recommend the company. Jim

We have used Evoke for our tree work for several years. As always, a very well-done job from start to finish, including the initial visit and obtaining the appropriate permissions from the WHC. All the trees were pruned as requested to a very good shape and the site was cleared of all rubbish.

Good service, provided by nice staff. The team handled the application process required for the removal of a number of very large lleyandii, plus the removal and stump grinding. Even dealing with having to work around a large amount of waste material and old fencing from previous owners.
