Buying a tree…buy local!

We often hear about ‘buying local’, purchasing from the independent businesses instead of the larger supermarkets, keeping the High Street alive! ‘Buying local’ also relates to buying trees. Buying trees that have never been overseas minimises the risk of introducing new pests and diseases into the UK. Locally grown trees are less likely to harbour exotic threats because they haven’t been exposed to the potential dangers of international travel and different ecosystems.

  • Local means resilient: Trees grown locally are adapted to the regional climate and soil conditions, making them more resilient and less likely to require extensive maintenance.
  • Fewer Surprises: With locally sourced trees, you are less likely to encounter unexpected pests or diseases that could spread to other plants in your garden or surrounding natural areas. Choosing locally grown trees supports the health and diversity of our local ecosystems. These trees contribute to the stability of native plant communities and provide habitat and food for native wildlife.
  • Biodiversity: Promoting the use of native species helps maintain biodiversity, which is crucial for ecosystem health and resilience.
  • Pollinators: Many native trees are essential for supporting local pollinators, which play a vital role in the reproduction of many plant species.

How to Choose Locally Grown Trees

  • Look for nurseries and suppliers that specialise in locally grown or certified trees. Ask about their sourcing practices to ensure that the trees you purchase have not been imported from overseas.
  • Certifications: Check for certifications or assurances from the nursery that their trees are locally sourced and free from known pests and diseases.
  • Reputable Sources: Choose reputable local nurseries that can provide information on the origin and care of their plants.

When selecting trees, consider those that are native to your region. These species are more likely to thrive in your local climate and soil conditions, and they contribute positively to the local environment.

  • Native Species: Opt for trees that are indigenous to your area to enhance ecological compatibility.
  • Diversity: Plant a variety of native species to create a robust and resilient garden or landscape.

Protecting our trees from exotic pests and diseases starts with mindful choices. By opting for locally grown trees that have never been overseas, we can significantly reduce the risk of introducing new threats to our native trees and woodlands. This simple but effective approach helps preserve the health of our forests, support local biodiversity, and ensure the long-term sustainability of our natural landscapes. Can't speak highly enough of this team. Professional, experienced, polite etc etc. 4th time they've been to me ( I don't live in a forest , just got lots of large unruly trees). Ryan and Calum did an amazing job on them. No complaints as they ploughed through all my requests in the pouring rain. Mustn't forget Kate in the office and Billy who leads the team. All of them are fantastic. If you need any tree work Evoke are the only ones to call. Thanks guys . Photo before and after on the front hedge

We were delighted by the work Evoke did on our hedge. This was a significant pruning but was done with care and commonsense. It resulted in a job that was superb - and looked better than anticipated. Their professionalism was appreciated; we can highly recommend the company. Jim

We have used Evoke for our tree work for several years. As always, a very well-done job from start to finish, including the initial visit and obtaining the appropriate permissions from the WHC. All the trees were pruned as requested to a very good shape and the site was cleared of all rubbish.

Good service, provided by nice staff. The team handled the application process required for the removal of a number of very large lleyandii, plus the removal and stump grinding. Even dealing with having to work around a large amount of waste material and old fencing from previous owners.
